Hypnotherapy FAQs
-
Hypnotherapy is a creative problem solving practice that uses relaxation techniques to access the subconscious mind. Once in a deeply relaxed state (trance), you are guided to address challenging beliefs and/or experiences that are getting in the way of your healing journey.
Hypnotherapy uses a combination of the following healing modalities:
Visualization / sensory exploration
Breath work
Mindset / subconscious framework
Mindfulness
My practice is trauma-informed, so I hold space for you in a way that allows you to explore any of your goals with appropriate support and care.

If you answer yes to any of the following criteria you are an excellent candidate for hypnotherapy:
-You are interested in holding more accountability in your healing journey
-You are feeling stuck on loop with patterns that no longer serve your growth
-You are curious about alternative and holistic healing modalities
-You understand that healing takes self-accountability and requires trust building
-You recognize there is no magic pill but with consistent and gentle effort you can make progress in your goals
-
From a behavioral perspective you should not use hypnotherapy if:
-You aren’t really “comfortable” with making changes in the long term
-You are doing sessions for your partner/parent/friend and not for you
-You plan to keep doing the habits that are impeding your growth
If you are someone with a diagnosis of schizophrenia or dissociative identity disorder it is recommended to not use hypnotherapy as a healing practice. Please consult your medical care team if you need additional recommendations for a mindfulness care practice.

Hypnotherapy is a safe and effective modality that most adults and older children (over age 7) can use. It is one of the most effective therapies. Research conducted by Alfred A. Barrios, Ph.D demonstrated a 93% success rate after six sessions for hypnosis clients.

I’ve seen dramatic improvements after single sessions, but I recommend you start with a minimum of three sessions. Three to six sessions is standard per each individual topic. However, everyone's healing journey is unique, so we will address a customized session plan. The session plan created together may include other healing modalities as well.

It can feel vulnerable to get to the state of suggestibility that hypnosis requires, however you will NEVER lose control during the session. You are always able to get out of hypnosis in an instant. There is no truth serum, you simply share without the conscious mind trying to dictate the conversation. I also have no control over your mind. I am acting as a guide to allow you to connect with your subconscious mind in order to provide clarity for the goals you are working on.

You will be fully conscious while in hypnosis. Your eyes are going to be closed (unless they need to remain open for personal reasons) but you will have control over your body the whole time. It’s totally normal if you need to adjust your body while in session as well. Our goal is to get you as comfortable and relaxed as possible.

At this time I do not take insurance. Hypnotherapy is usually not a covered therapy on its own.

Hypnotherapy is a wonderful tool to use with a myriad of healing practices.
Examples of complementary healing tools: talk therapy, group therapy, EMDR, nutritional counseling, coaching, reiki healing, acupuncture, massage therapy, chiropractic care, physical therapy, and many more!
I recommend working with your health care providers when working on developing a care plan.
